VENTURE VERSUS THE VIRUS

In times like this, we all need to hear — and share — constructive news about work being done to tackle problems caused by COVID-19. Here’s what some AVG portfolio companies are contributing.

Today’s Portfolio Company: MDmetrix

Portfolio company MDmetrix is a healthcare data analytics, visualization, and AI firm that serves hospitals and surgery centers, allowing them to quickly and easily leverage their own data. The result: Clinical operations can improve care and deliver results. Now, to help hospital leaders and frontline physicians combat the pandemic, the company is providing free COVID-19 Mission Control subscriptions to UW Medicine and other hospitals.

Using MDmetrix, clinicians themselves can compare the effectiveness of protocols, instantly asserting and adapting care during the crisis. The platform leaps beyond dashboards and puts insights directly in physicians hands now, when they need it more.

COVID-19 Mission Control

MDmetrix developed the COVID-19 Mission Control platform to deliver insights from the customer’s hospital, offer responses to  custom inquiries, and help hospitals improve patient care and optimize utilization of critical resources. No IT integration is needed for the platform or training, and it can use structured data from any EMR.

See video policy below.

The goal of the platform is threefold:

  1. Leverage real world data. Data at the local level is the most useful for a hospital’s decisions. MDmetrix is the analytical window into a hospital’s electronic medical records.
  2. Get answers fast. MDmetrix enables clients to ask clinical questions and get actionable answers in just 2-5 minutes from EMR input to answer.
  3. Transform clinical operations. With the push of a button, clinicians and hospital administrators can visualize, evaluate, and monitor patient care and clinical performance, so they can quickly adapt and improve care across teams, conditions, and protocols.

MDmetrix’s Mission Control platform has facilitated substantial healthcare improvements since 2016, including enabling the first-ever opioid-free surgery center. The tremendous impact on the quality and cost of patient care has been documented in more than 30 academic publications and recognitions in the past year.

How Are We Involved?

Green D Ventures (for Dartmouth alumni and friends) led AVG’s investment in MDmetrix’s 2019 fundraising round alongside lead investor Founders’ Co-op, with participation from sibling fund Waterman Ventures (for Brown alumni and friends). We’re grateful to be a witness and small contributor to the continuing good work of MDmetrix and others who are supporting front-line efforts in the fight against COVID-19.

New: Post-COVID Fund

AVG’s new Post-COVID Fund will invest in ventures that are both promising businesses and either directly or indirectly address the multiple impacts of the virus in healthcare, technology, services, data monitoring and analysis, learning, payments, communications, entertainment, and more.
